This really resonated, Sara. I love the idea of beige hotels as neutral backdrops for connection, not the point but the container. Sometimes happiness shows up quietly in those in between spaces.
What I like about these mid range hotels is that they are reliable and consistent. You get exactly what you are paying for each time. Similar to a McDonalds hamburger, it is always consistent and good.
One hundred percent agree! Life is full of unreliable and inconsistent things. Why not enjoy a little predictability? (PS this is Sara. I tried replying as myself, but I’m still figuring this substack thing out)
I really appreciate this. Not as "culturally prestigious" is a great way to phrase it. And the anonymous element is interesting too. Something to think about in future pieces. Thanks for reading!

Thank you, Destiny! Happiness showing up quietly in "those in between spaces" is a lovely way to put it. I'm a big fan of in between spaces.
Guilty pleasure: the waffle iron at the continental breakfast counter (it’s not a buffet!). Flip it, wait for the beep, walk away.
The waffle iron is magic!
